Traveling to Vienna

Travelling to Vienna …

… by Plane

Vienna has an international airport (VIE) situated in the south of the city. Once you are there the easiest way to reach the city is to take a train from the aiport train station.

Austrian Airlines, the official carrier of ALGO 2017 offer 15% off on your flight ticket.

Ground transportation fron airport to city center

  1. The train ÖBB-Railjet towards the main train station of Vienna. It takes about 15 minutes and costs 3.90 Euro. It runs every half hour.
  2. Tram S7 towards Floridsdorf takes about 25 minutes to reach the station “Wien Mitte”, where you can switch to the subway system  and costs 3.90 Euro. Runs every half hour too. From there you can just get into the local transportation system of the “Wiener Linien” (to subway (U-Bahn), tram (Strassenbahn), local bus (Bus)).
  3. The CAT train costs 11 Euro and runs to “Wien Mitte” in about 16 minutes. From there you can just get into the the local transportation system of the “Wiener Linien” (to subway (U-Bahn), tram (Strassenbahn), local bus (Bus)).
  4. A Taxi for one person should costs you about 40 EUR for a drive from the airport to the city center. From there you can just get into the local transportation system of the “Wiener Linien” (to subway (U-Bahn), tram (Strassenbahn), local bus (Bus)).

For additional information and schedules the aiport has a nice pdf collecting the information.

… by Train

In case you arrive to Vienna via train you will most likely exit at the new main train station just south of the city center. From there you can just get into the local transportation system of the “Wiener Linien” (to subway (U-Bahn), tram (Strassenbahn), local bus (Bus)).

… by Car

Vienna has a rather bad parking in the center. In case you are traveling by car we highly recommend to leave it in one of the “park+ride” garages (P+R). A week costs 17.10 Euro, a single day 3.40 Euro. If you are buying a week ticket for the public transport you should do this before paying the weekly parking fee since it grants you a discount of 3.10 Euro, it does not grant any discount if you pay the parking day-wise. From there you can just get into the local transportation system of the “Wiener Linien” (to subway (U-Bahn), tram (Strassenbahn), local bus (Bus)).

An overview of the P+R garages can be found here.
